Help us provide the basic essential to a healthy life: clean water! By doing so you can take part in changing this entire community, not only by giving them clean water to drink, but by allowing us (the Wells family) to show the love of Christ to these people.
In the small Garifuna community of Nueva Armenia on the north coast of Honduras, we are working with community leadership to address the many problems the community faces. Honduras has a history of violence, crime, and corruption within the government and its public entities. Because of this, public services are nearly non-existent and many communities have suffered to be left to create solutions of their own to their seemingly unending problems.
A once functional water source used to provide the community with water. After more than a decade, this water source has nearly ceased to exist due to lack of maintenance and natural causes (deterioration, damaged pipes, broken water pump, etc.). In the past few months water from this source has stopped entirely.
We realize that many of the problems in this community exisit because of a poverty mindset, a mindset that relies heavily on outside sources. To address this mindset, we use biblical examples of what it means to truly "live". We teach people that God has created them with a specific purpose and that he wants them to fulfill that purpose. And we know that having water is essential to living and gives hope. So we have initiated a water project to provide water for the entire community, over 2000 people, which will include drilling a well, installing a filtration system, and building an infrastructure around the project (a shelter, local leadership to oversee, etc.). We have also designed an education program that will teach the community members about the benefits of clean water and how it will affect their entire life. We believe that a knowledge of what defines "love" (that God IS love) is also essential to a long lasting change that begins with the heart. Through this project we will share this love with the people of Nueva Armenia.
WHAT'S NEEDED? UPDATE: April 10th
Due to repairs needed to be made to drilling machinery, the initial drilling of the well has been delayed. Also, we still need to reach our goal of $2,500 to complete our Phase One goal for this water project. This will allow us to pay for the actual well drilling, for a pump, and to build a structure around the pump to secure it and the electrical components.
Please donate now and be a change agent to have a lasting impact effecting an entire community!
