BENEFITING: Water First International
Mileage Tracker: 13
I am very pleased to tell you that I was able to finish the Amica Seattle 1/2 Marathon today 25 November 2012. My time was a very stately 2 hours 36 mins. At the start there must have been close tp 20,000 people, and of course the high octane race brigade were off to a blistering start. It seemed I was overtaken by every-one till about mile 3, which we did at a blistering pace. By 1/2 way I was beginning to feel the pace, [1 hour 10 mins 45 secs]. Then there were a series of very steep hills and a long section of very uneven road that hurt badly!
In the end I was countng down the miles, and when mile 11 showed up, I knew I would make it. By this stage I was in the company of a reindeer and a lady in a very strage crinoline. The fit girls in the lumberjack outfits, I am afraid I had no more gas in the legs to keep up with!
In any event I finished, am not injured and now to focus on the fund raising!
Hopefully you can help me now to raise some money for Water First. They need to raise money for some clean water projects in Ethiopia. Over 90% of the cause of diarrheal deaths is unsafe drinking-water, poor sanitation and hygiene. Good hygiene also has a huge impact on other conditions impacting child health like malnutrition, pneumonia, and neonatal disorders.
We know from our own experience in the United States. In the early 1900s, when people starting using clean water and the toilet, the results were instant – people stopped dying of cholera and typhoid.
Unclean water kills by the millions. Human and animal feces are the main source of diarrheal pathogens. Elminating these routes through safe water, toilets, and improved hygiene practices such as hand-washing is key to the prevention of diarrheal disease.
Thank you so much for your great support.
Many best wishes for a great X-Mas
