Once upon a time is a good start to a lot of stories, but not the one I’m about to tell you. This story takes place just a couple of months ago and it’s about to change the world.
Water. It’s a big part of my day to day life. It’s a big part of everyone’s life. We use it to cook, to clean, to grow our crops, to take a bath, to wash our dogs after they decided a mud bath was a good idea...you get the gist- we use a water a lot. I never thought about people not having enough water, though.
The question most people ask me is,”How did you learn about the problem?” Well, I’m so glad you asked. Let me tell you- I did a 30-hour fast with my church youth group just to see what it was like to go hungry, but hunger wasn’t the only problem that I learned about. Clean water was, and remains to be, a problem in third world countries. You want to know what I did? You do? Okay, I’ll tell you what I did. I researched. Not really exciting, but you’ve got to start somewhere.
There’s lots of people and places affected by this problem. And by lots of people, I mean 1 in 8 globally. I came to the conclusion this was unacceptable and I became determined to do something to fix it. So I found a non-profit organization called charity: water that focuses on just the problem I want to help fix.
That’s how you and I got where we are now: I’ve written this letter and sent it to you which you are now reading. Stay tuned, folks, because I’m about to tell you how you can jump on the bandwagon and help this project.
I’d like you to partner with me to help bring water to the people of the world. Our goal will be to raise the money build a deep water well in a community without access to clean water. That is where you, my wonderful partner, come in- spread the word in your church or workplace, at the pub with your friends and get involved by donating to the cause. Yep, it’s just that easy. And you won’t be the only one. I’m getting my whole community involved, my school and all of my friends and family all over the country. It’s a pretty big bandwagon, but there is plenty of room for you to jump on and join the movement.
