BENEFITING: Harvest Hope Food Bank
EVENT DATE: Sep 11, 2016
Lambda Chi Alpha prides itself as one of Feeding America's greatest annual contributors. This fall, our fraternity plans to continue hosting its annual Watermelon Bash but with a much more personal mindset. Last year, Columbia endured some of the most disastrous flooding in its history - placing our community in the national spotlight. Although most of campus was lucky enough to hold against the devastation, we all know that numerous families and homes across Columbia weren't as fortunate. Since the flood, many of us have been inspired by the strength that came from the Midland's resilience and stewardship during the trying time. We all have seen the incredible power of a community devoted to action and self-restoration. Our fraternity hopes to take the lessons from this tragedy and the conviction that Columbia carries to partner with the local food bank - Harvest Hope - to raise disaster relief boxes in preparation for future tribulations and to end the ever-present lack of food that burdens the less fortunate in our area. What sets Harvest Hope apart from other food banks is that it not only collects canned goods and nonperishable supplies, but it also operates an amazing program that generates 10 pounds of food for every $1 donation. And according to South Carolina’s Secretary of State office, the regulator of official state charities and nonprofits, Harvest Hope devoted 98.3% of all donations to its program every year. Please join us in our support for Harvest Hope! Please note, ALL donations go directly to Harvest Hope.
