Hi my name is Jakob Schenker. I am currently a Master's Candidate at the University of Vermont Rubenstein School for Natural Resources. I am researching how certain plant properties ecological design properties can help filter out chemicals and nutrients from water. It is my hope to learn more about these eco-technologies to help purify drinking water and natural water bodies to those most in need around the world.
This winter I will be traveling to Tamale, Ghana with Community Water Solutions (www.communitywatersolutions.org) to implement a water treatment system that will purify all of the village's drinking water needs. I am hoping to raise $3,500 for in-country equipment to build, monitor and maintain this drinking water system. I will build it from the ground up with a handful of other fellows, monitor and adjust how the system operates for maximum efficiency, and leave a system in place so that it can be sustained over many years.
I am very excited about this opportunity and know that I, along with Community Water Solutions, will make a big impact on the village we are helping. Drinking water will be purified and the people of Tamale will have a better quality of life.
