BENEFITING: Water For People
Hello! We are Brownie Troop 62002 from Houston, Texas.
As part of our Girl Scout training, we have been studying "the wonders of water," and we learned how important it is to have safe water to drink. Sadly, we also learned that nearly a billion people in the world don't have safe water, and that 6,000 people die each day from diseases they catch from unsafe water--and most of them are children, just like us!
The Girl Scout Law teaches us to be "considerate and caring," to "use resources wisely," and "to make the world a better place," so we decided we want to do something to save those children. To do that, we need to ask for your help.
We have two goals:
First, we want to spread the word about the importance of clean water for health, and let people know how many people in the world don't have it (nearly a billion) and what that means (6,000 people die each day, mostly CHILDREN). To spread that word, we will ask our parents to post a link to this page on their Facebook pages, then ask their friends to like and share those posts so that others will see them too, and so that we can count how many people we were able to reach and teach. Liking and sharing a Facebook post costs nothing--we really hope you will be willing to help us do that.
Second, we'd like to ask you to consider making a donation of $10 or more to a charity called Water For People. Ten dollars is a lot of money, we know--we wish we could ask for less, but to reach a lot of people using this web site, $10 is the minimum gift we can request; still, $10 is just one dollar for each of the ten countries in which this charity works to provide safe drinking water and clean sanitation to needy communities, so we hope you'll agree that it's a good deal. We think it's definitely worth $10 to save a child's life. The other reason we chose Water For People is that they have earned a four-star rating from Charity Navigator for ten years in a row, so you know your money will be spent wisely, helping save lives and build healthy communities. We got the idea after one of our troop members heard a story about them on the radio--you can listen to that here.
We see a need and want to take action to make the world a better place, but we are too young to have Facebook accounts or credit cards, so we need to ask for your help:
Please help us spread the word about the importance of clean water by liking and sharing the Facebook post that brought you here (or use your Facebook account to link directly to this page). Then, if you can, please help us save the lives of children just like us by visiting crowdrise.com/Troop62002 to make a gift of $10 or more to Water For People (the money goes to the charity, not to our troop).
Thank you for reading, for liking and sharing on Facebook, and for donating!
Love, Troop 62002
