The Balanda Community Association is a 501(c) (3) charitable non-profit organization formed in December, 2008 to bring together all the Balanda in the Diaspora to address and meet the neglected educational and health needs of the Balanda People in the aftermath of two protracted civil wars, which have ravaged the Balanda People in the Republic of South Sudan for the past fifty five years. The aim is to secure the active participation of the Balanda people in rebuilding their community devastated by civil wars and deliberate neglect by successive governments in the Sudan since 1956.
The Balanda people, whose homeland stretches from Western Equatoria state to Western Bahr Ghazal State in western South Sudan, do not have a single functional primary, intermediate, and secondary schools, hospital, or primary health care center in their communities. With the exception of few schools and primary health care centers, which were built by the Catholics and Protestants Missionaries at the beginning of the twentieth century and all of which closed in the 1950s due to civil war, no new schools and no new hospital and primary health care centers have been built in the Balanda areas. The complete absence of basic educational and health care infrastructures has produced the lowest literacy and life expectancy for the Balanda people in the Republic of South Sudan. The Balanda Community Association has three overarching strategic goals:
- To build a state of the art college preparatory primary and intermediate school (two schools in one) for one thousand students in Wau, South Sudan beginning in the fall of 2012.
- To build a health medical center, which will provided both the much needed services to people in the Balanda communities across Western Bahr Ghazal State and Western Equatoria State.
- To develop a community-based agricultural cooperative program to address food shortages and establish food security for the Balanda community.
In order to realize these strategic goals, we need your help. Please consider making a donation to the Balanda community Association today in the amount of $25, $50, $100 or more. Help enable us build the Wau School and empower the Balanda Community Association to become more impactful.
