For the second consecutive year, alumni and current players of the Waverly High School soccer program will come together to raise money for Sparrow Hospital's Cancer Treatment Department and Hospice Service Department. Last year, with the support of a wide range of stakeholders from the community, we managed to raise over $5,000.
Help us build on last year's success by getting involved with this year's event. There are several ways to contribute:
1) Donate to our cause by using this fundraising page!
2) Get your family and friends to donate! Share our fundraising page link far and wide.
3) If you are an alumni of the soccer program, sign up to play. Send an email to Josh Gladney at email@example.com
4) Sign up to help with the BBQ that will immediately follow the game(s). We need people who can barbecue, donate food and condiments, and provide a grill. Email Josh Glady at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know how you can help.
We look forward to hosting another amazing alumni game for an amazing cause. However, we can't do it without the support of our community! Please get involved in any way you can.
Last year marked the first Waverly Soccer Alumni Game that sought to raise money for the Cancer Treatment Center and Hospice Service Department at Sparrow Hospital. The idea for the game came after Rufus Gladney and Ann Schneidewind, the parents of two Waverly Soccer Alumni, Joshua Gladney and Jimmy Schneidewind, passed away from cancer complications within six months of each other. Sparrow’s Cancer Center and Hospice Service Department were chosen as fundraising recipients because of the pivotal role they played in helping Rufus and Ann get the care they needed to live as well as the compassion and resources they needed to pass on in a dignified and peaceful manner.
2012's highly successful event raised over $5,700 and brought together multiple generations of Waverly soccer. Please help us honor the memories of Rufus, Ann, other parents of Waverly soccer alumni that have passed of cancer or have made use of hospice services, and anyone else that has benefited from the services offered by Sparrow Hospital by participating and donating to this year’s Waverly Soccer Alumni Game.
