BENEFITING: SPARROW HEALTH SYSTEM
EVENT DATE: Sep 13, 2014
For the third consecutive year, alumni and current players of the Waverly High School soccer program will come together to raise money for Sparrow Hospital's Cancer Treatment Department and Hospice Service Department. Since the start of this initiative in 2012, with the support of a wide range of stakeholders from the community, we managed to raise over $11,000 to support those affected by cancer in the Mid-Michigan Community. Please join us as we prepare to reach this year’s goal of $5,000!
Help us build on last year's success by participating in this year's event. There are several ways to contribute:
1) Donate to our cause by using this fundraising page! While the suggested donation is $20.00, anything you can contribute would help! (Note: Donations ARE tax deductable)
2) Encourage your family and friends to donate! The more the get invovled the better impact we can make.
3) Share our fundraising page far and wide! Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Email, Text, Smoke signal, anything to spread the word!
4) If you are an alumni of the Men’s or Women’s soccer program, sign up to play to play in the annual Alumni Soccer vs. the 2014 Men's Varsity team. This year’s Alumni game will take place on Saturday, September 13th at the Waverly HS Soccer Complex. (Time: TBA) To play, contact Jimmy Schneidewind ('03), Allen Baerman ('03), or Josh Gladney ('03) at WaverlyAlumniFC@gmail.com.
We look forward to reaching our goal and seeing everyone at another amazing alumni game for this cause. However, we can't do it without the support of our community! Please get involved in any way you can.
Last year marked the second Waverly Soccer vs. Cancer fundraiser that sought to raise money for the Cancer Treatment Center and Hospice Service Department at Sparrow Hospital (Lansing, MI). The idea for the initiative came after Rufus Gladney and Ann Schneidewind, the parents of two Waverly Soccer Alumni, Joshua Gladney and Jimmy Schneidewind, passed away from cancer complications within six months of each other. Sparrow’s Cancer Center and Hospice Service Department were chosen as fundraising recipients because of the pivotal role they played in helping Rufus and Ann get the care they needed to live as well as the compassion and resources they needed to pass on in a dignified and peaceful manner.
2012’s highly successful event raised over $5,700. The following year again revealed huge achievement, yielding $5,786 and once again brought together multiple generations of Waverly Soccer. Please help us honor the memories of Rufus, Ann, other parents and students of the Waverly Soccer program family that have passed of cancer or have made use of hospice services, and anyone else that has benefited from the services offered by Sparrow Hospital by participating and donating to this year’s Waverly Soccer vs. Cancer campaign.
