BENEFITING: WAVES OF IMPACT
EVENT DATE: Jan 07, 2017
Hi. My name is Sam and I am 16 years old. I have been surfing with the co-founders of Waves of Impact and their volunteers for 6 years. Sometimes people look at me and don't realize the things that I can do. You see, I was born with multiple disabilities as a result of a chromosome 18q deletion syndrome. I'm deaf, nonverbal, have delayed myelination of my brain, have severe intellectual and developmental delays, autism, ADHD and a few more challenges to add to the list. Still, I'm bright, very happy, have my own way of communicating with others and can do and enjoy many things. I love swimming, riding roller coasters, go-carts and horses and I especially love surfing. I'm a sensory kid so I love the sand, seaweed, salty water and the movement of the waves in the ocean. The waves give me the sensory input my body desperately needs. The bigger the waves, the more excited I become. Waves of Impact has made a tremendous difference in my life and on January 7, 2017 my mom and dad will be running with me and pushing me in my chariot at The Super Run 5K in Sugar Land, TX. The money I am able to raise will benefit Waves of Impact so they can continue to provide free surf camps for kids like me! Please consider supporting this terrific cause. Any amount is appreciated! Thank you!
