BENEFITING: AS ONE COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT INC
The “We are One – Education Project ” focuses on schools in impoverished communities that have little to no funding... in this case Trelawny, Jamaica! And helping them raise its performance abilities in the areas of literacy, staff proficiency, technology, and building conditions. In plain terms... we just want to help the school succeed!
Without your generosity and compassion, As One Charity would not have the community needed to impact lives across outside of Los Angeles. With We Are One Jamaica, we have connected a global team of like minds—minds seeking to create change around the World, and you are a part of this global community. Ulster Springs Primary School is now able to engage in curriculum through means previously unattainable in their communities. We would like to share a portion of our journey and say thank you on behalf of our entire team and the neighborhood in Trelawny, Jamaica. Our next journey to Ulster Springs is coming up in the Fall, and each volunteer will prepare a creative curriculum to engage the children in self expression through various mediums. Self-expression and creative stimulation is something they have little experience in, even on island as rich in culture as Jamaica. As we continue to not only supply and repair communities, we also aim to educate them on the activities we provide. Making certain the community is able to sustain growth and continue building throughout the ranging generations and throughout their individual neighborhoods. This next journey we will also continue to develop their computer access, laptops are the most efficient as their electricity is limited. We will also provide teachers and students with computer literacy workshops, in addition to parents in the local communities. Some of the activities we have planned will be in photography, arts/drawing, creative writing, theater arts and foreign language. With our contribution from small and large donors in the past we were able to supply the children with the school supplies and classroom activities; this time we are reaching out to even larger foundations to achieve these bigger goals we have in mind. Yes, there is even more!. We are now developing a school garden, a composting process, and an eco-friendly greenhouse, all developed by local Jamaican farmers on a volunteer basis with natural materials. This will then be implemented into the curriculum, providing the children an opportunity to grow their own food, while learning about healthier eating options. Stay tuned for our upcoming journey’s, as we are currently preparing for the Arts Camp and a variety of fundraising events throughout Los Angeles! We will need volunteers to join us as we again inspire the minds at Ulster Springs Primary.
