We Shall Overcome: DC Bound!
Organized by: Brianna G.
Hi, my name is Brianna Guydon and today I am speaking on behalf of We Shall Overcome to ask the people of CrowdRise to fund our trip to Washington, D.C. First, I would like to thank you for taking an interest in my group's predicament. It means a lot to us that you are here, reading this, and possibly pondering whether or not to help fund our trip to the third tier of the National History Day Competition. Even if you decide not to donate, we would like to sincerely thank each of you. Now, I'm guessing you would like to know more about our problem, or, specifically, the reason why we are trying to raise money. Through our school, my group and I decided to join together and compete in a competition called National History Day. In this competition, competitors choose an event in history, research it thoroughly, and based upon the knowledge the students obtained through research, produce a product in a medium that can be easily shared with a multitude of people. Such mediums included: a website, theatrical performance, documentary, or poster. Considering the fact that every single member of our group is passionate in Theatre, it was no surprise which medium we chose. Over the course of many months, we worked diligently on this project. At first, we were only slightly interested, but quickly the show became so much more to us. The more we researched, the more we learned and resonated with the inspiring leaders in history. The most specific example I can give to you is the main character of our show: Diane Nash. We became more educated in civil rights and injustice and in turn, we became more and more passionate about our show. This pushed us harder to make everything as accurate as possible and to evoke the desired feeling we wanted from our audience. Thankfully, our hard work and passion paid off. At school level, we were sent to district. At district level, we came in second place and won the African American History award. At state level, we placed first and are currently being sent to Washington, D.C. for Nationals. We have come a long way, and it is a blessing that we have made it this far. Which is the exact reason why it would be a shame for us to stop when we have so much going for us. This is why we are asking you all, to please help us reach our meager goal of $1750. This will pay for registration, transportation, lodging, and meals for all four students in our group. Thank you for your consideration, and hopefully we shall overcome!
