Mentoring is a much overlooked, valuable resource for today’s emerging leaders seeking to develop their personal and professional skills. Did you know that:
- Over 50% of newly appointed executive leaders lack the capabilities to handle internal politics?
- 58% are unclear about company expectations?
- 82% lack appropriate networks?
Professional mentoring programs increase the productivity and effectiveness of 88% of both mentors and mentees, specifically in the areas of networking, interpersonal effectiveness and confidence.
At We Build Character, we’re passionate about building a strong, diverse network of leaders and executives in the IT field. We mentor 40 professionals each year through our 12-month Elevate programs, playing a vital role in retaining high potential employees in the state of Michigan. Our program leverages external mentors and a structured program to help build soft skills in the areas of leadership, the importance of a network and community service.
Many local nonprofits are focused on low-income, underprivileged individuals, which is fantastic. What no one is focusing on however, is that executive leadership has admitted that they need help in the area of leadership development, in preparing tomorrow's leaders for executive level positions, as Baby Boomers continue to leave the workforce in droves.
Our goal at We Build Character is to raise $45,000 by October 31st to allow us to award 20 mentee scholarships to area professionals, who otherwise would not be able to afford the program on their own.
