When you open your heart to a child, everyone benefits. The child benefits from the knowledge and guidance of loving parents, and each parent grows through the process of parenting. The best parents help children find what interests them at every age, what kindles their curiosity, and what stirs their heart.
New York child welfare reform advocate and former foster child Jamel Robinson founded the JRCWRI in October of 2008 at age 21.
AFTER SPENDING 21 YEARS OF HIS OWN LIFE IN THE NEW YORK CITY FOSTER CARE SYSTEM WITHOUT BEING ADOPTED, IT HAS BECOME HIS LIFE'S WORK AND UNDYING COMMITMENT TO ENSURE THAT NO OTHER CHILD HAS TO EXPERIENCE THE CHALLENGES HE HAD TO OVERCOME DUE TO THE LACK OF A STABLE, LOVING, AND NURTURING ADOPTIVE FAMILY.
May is National Foster Care Month, and during this month, the Jamel Robinson Child Welfare Reform Initiative is launching the We Deserve Love Too campaign, the first youth-led campaign of its kind in New York City history, designed to draw attention to the high number of TEENS in foster care and their need for permanent, loving homes filled with HOPE!
Today, I'm reaching out to ask for your support (and there are many ways to provide it!) of the We Deserve Love Too campaign.
At the Jamel Robinson Child Welfare Reform Initiative, our vision is a community where every individual age 13-21 has the opportunity to identify and live out their unique purpose and contribute their talents to improve the quality of life in New York City.
One-third of today's youth in foster care is between the ages of 13 and 19, and fewer than 20% of these youth are anticipating adoption. Most will be released from foster care with no family support system in place.
The Jamel Robinson Child Welfare Reform Initiative, creators of the We Deserve Love Too campaign, is reaching out to individuals that uphold the belief that, with the right influence, youth that have spent time in foster care have the potential to contribute greatly to making a difference in the world.
Here are just a few ways you can support the We Deserve Love Too Campaign:
- Attending the We Deserve Love Too public launch event on May 2, 2013
- Asking your employees, friends, and family to contribute $14 each or more to honor the 14,000 youth in foster care today and spreading the word via Facebook and twitter
We hope you'll take the chance to make We Deserve Love Too a part of your most visible community efforts, so that no foster child is left without a loving home.
Their future is boundless with the right influence ... Teens Deserve Love Too!
To learn more about the campaign, please contact me via email at: firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at: (516) 451.0338 ext. 102.
Thank you in advance for all your support!!!
