Puravida: Living Out a New Design
Organized by: Dominique Ovalle
June 10, 2016
EVENT DATE Jun 15, 2016
Hello, my name is Dominique and I am an artist and graphic designer. I visited Costa Rica in 2008 where I volunteered at a children's home. I was 20 at the time and felt that if I were older, I would have adopted some of the children, because they came from brutal circumstances and needed good homes and parents who would love and care for them. That initial trip carved out a hole in my heart for children without parents.
Now I'm 29, and I feel is time for me to return to work at a nonprofit as a Tia! While this trip is only a little over a month, it represents a small step in a larger plan of possibly moving overseas to do this kind of work. This summer, I will work as a "Tia" (aunty) for the children at a childrens' home, and Graphic Designer for their non-profit. My goal is to spend 1.5 months as a designer and mentor for young kids at a group home in Costa Rica. I will add to the non-profits' presence, donating my time and expertise to update their website design, social media, newsletters and donor support media. My goal is to use my talent and abilities to create better design and therefore greater impact for their organization.
