My Name is Valene Lynette Urban. My entire life has been spent in pain. I am blind, and have been confined to a wheelchair since I was very small. My mother Michelle and father John have dedicated their lives to taking care of me. They have sacrificed so much to give me a little piece of a normal life. I was recently diagnosed with thyroid cancer and i know that I only have days left on this earth. My final wishes are simple, I want to swim with the mermaids in Hawaii. I want my parents to take the vacation of a lifetime while taking me to my final resting place. I owe so much to my mom and dad and I'm hoping with your help that you can help me fulfill my wish. SEND ME TO HAWAII!
Unfortunately Valene passed away August 27, 2014. Please help keep this going.
There is no one more deserving of this than Valene. When you think of everything she had gone through; the challenges she has been dealt. From the JRA (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis) to reactions and complications with treatments, medication, vaccines, and other obstacles that left her blind and a "crip chick" (which she loved to call herself) She was the first person in the room that you would see smiling and hear laughing.
As a third grader I met Valene at our elementary school. I'm sure as a human, pity was what attracted me to her. Thinking that if there was something I could do to help this blind girl in a pink wheel chair feel happy, I was gonna do it. Little did I know that it was quite opposite.
She never once made you feel pity for her. She never once made excuses for not doing things, she would just find a way to do them. She was always the first to help in any way possible, telling a joke when you were in need of a laugh, empathizing when you needed a shoulder to cry on and screaming at you when you weren't listening.
When she became really sick in 2010 we would talk about things she wanted to do before she died. What she wanted to learn and accomplish. She continued her best to write her novel she so badly wanted to publish. We went to the mountains for her birthday one year because she wanted to be in the woods. Smell the trees, hear a stream of water, feel the mountain breeze.
Another thing we would talk about was doing something special for her parents John and Michelle. After all they have given up 30 years of their life to care for her and to give her as much of a normal childhood as she could have. She wanted to raise enough money for them to take a well deserved dream vacation they never had the pleasure of having.
Valene was trying to raise the money before she was diagnosed and passed away with thyroid cancer on August 27, 2014.
As her last wish she is asking for donations to help send her parents to Hawaii and also to spread her ashes over the ocean to forever swim with the mermaids. Every dollar will help and sharing her story would be greatly appreciated.
Valene was loved by everyone she came in contact with. She will never be forgotten. She taught those around her strength, courage, patience, persistence, love, and laughter. We all will carry a piece of her in our hearts forever.
Please help Valene's last wish come true!
