BENEFITING: American Heart Association
EVENT DATE: Apr 05, 2014
I'm training for my first long distance event. The Hollywood Half Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, April 5. My inspiration comes from one of my best friend's, Omar Cardenas. Omar has been running marathons for several years and has been running in honor of his son (and my Ava's best friend), Noah. Here's Noah's story in Omar's words:
"Noah was born [in 2006]. In his second day of life, the doctors come into our room and told us he has a heart murmur and they have to do further tests to see why. The tests diagnose Noah with coarctation of the aorta, a ventral septal defect (VSD) and bicuspid aortic valve. Terror and fear overcame us realizing the possibility of having to relive what happened with my sister. I could see the fear and the almost sense of responsibility on my parents faces when we told them. It was scary. The most urgent issue was the VSD. It was in a dangerous place so it had to be fixed as soon as Noah was big enough to get through surgery. At 10 months old, Noah had open heart surgery to fix the VSD. My dad made a deal with God that if Noah got through it ok, he would never smoke again. Well, my dad hasn’t smoked since that day and Noah’s surgery went well. If you know him today, you know how sweet and innocent he is. And how active and big. Which are rare for “heart” babies."
Noah will always be in my family's life. He's my Ava's best friend and his parents (Omar and Tish) are Godparents to my 3 girls. Noah is an inspiration.
So I'm asking for your support to donate as little as you can to my cause. 100% of your donation goes directly to the American Heart Association in Noah's honor. If it weren't for Omar and his unconditional love for his son and his continued commitment to run for this cause, I would never have gotten off my couch.
Thank You and See you at the Finish Line!
