About Red Hook Initiative:
Red Hook Initiative empowers hundreds of young people each year from Red Hook, Brooklyn, to succeed academically, gain job readiness skills, go to college or enter a workforce training program, and to step up as leaders in their community.
This summer at Red Hook Initiative (RHI), we aim to provide 120 Red Hook youth the invaluable opportunity of a summer job. RHI will pay over $200,000 in youth salaries this summer, with the average young person taking home $1,750 in paychecks. In a neighborhood where the high school graduation rate is less than 50% and the unemployment rate for young adults is 75%, RHI provides the framework for youth to envision and determine their own futures.
• $1,750 covers the average salary paid directly to a Red Hook youth
• $1,000 covers pre-training for college students before a paid summer internship
• $250 pays for one end-of-summer peer education event
• $50 pays for two resume prep sessions for young adults.
We hope you can join us in making this vision a reality in Red Hook this summer.
