BENEFITING: Wellbody Alliance
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
In a country devastated by a ten-year civil war, Wellbody Alliance is an innovative, effective social justice organization providing free and reduced-cost healthcare to Sierra Leone's vulnerable populations and rural poor through a primary care clinic and community-based health programs, as well as financial initiatives.
Wellbody alliance (formerly Global Action Foundation) was started as a collaboration between a friend of mine from medical school, Dan Kelly and a physician in Sierra Leone, Bailor Barrie, and I have been working with them since 2009. See the webpage for more information about the organization, and about Sierra Leone: http://wellbodyalliance.org/where-we-work/
I've raised $$ for them before, and I think its time to do it again. Last time we were able to purchase an ultrasound, which I brought with me to the clinic in 2009. This time I'd like to raise $$ to help fund the purchase of medications and defray the cost of transportation, issues I encountered on my return visit this year, so that we can ensure that our Sierra Leonean patients get the same quality of treatment that we enjoy in the US. I'll be running the NYC marathon with my 61yr old father who is in better shape than me this year, a plan we made in 2008 when he last ran it, and had to push off after last years health issues and natural disasters. Unlike him, I think I need a bit more incentive to get to the finish line... Please help me raise this money for Wellbody Alliance, and help maintain my drive to finish 26.2 miles!
