On November 27, 2016 I will begin climbing the highest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. This is significant in many ways. It will be my 55th birthday, a celebration of discovering my self-worth and replacing the negative in my life with positive. I can't think of a better way, than to help care for children. World Child Cancer (WCC) works to see a world where every child with cancer has access to the best possible treatment and care. Over 200,000 children develop cancer worldwide each year. 80% of those children live in low or middle income countries where survival rates can be as low as 5%, compared to 80% in high income countries. The fact is, childhood cancer can be curable even in resource-poor countries. It is possible to save the lives of 50-60% of children with easily treatable malignancies with relatively simple and inexpensive drugs and procedures known to doctors for decades.
