We Run With Boston

EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon

EVENT DATE: Jun 23, 2013

Amy Gilstein

Monday's traumatic events in Boston were so disheartening to everyone; personally, as a native New Englander and as part of the Marathon community, they really hit home. I was not running Boston, but as both a NYC Marathon alumna and repeat spectator/cheerleader, marathons for me have always been a time of jubilation; celebration; accomplishing something that very few have attempted. It's where you wear your heart on your sleeve and survive 26.2 miles with complete strangers on the sidelines who become your biggest supporters and are out there solely to encourage you to succeed. Marathons are truly a magical place.

I am itching for a way to do something and give back and I have decided to dedicate my next few races to "The One Fund", benefiting those who were most injured by what unfolded on Monday. I am running a 5K where all proceeds will go back to "The One Fund" on 4/20; the Brooklyn Half on 5/18, biking 40 miles in the Five Boro Bike Tour on 5/4, biking 108 miles to Montauk in the Ride to Montauk on 6/1, and participating in my first Olympic Half in RI on 6/23 (less than 60 miles from where the explosions occurred). You can imagine that the evil that happened and the generosity of everyone as a result will be in my heart with every step that I take. Please consider donating or creating a page on my team and running with me in your own way.

Today, we are all Boston. #runforboston
