BENEFITING: COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF NEW JERSEY INC
EVENT DATE: Jun 15, 2011
HOURS PLEDGED: 100
Our mission is to bring together a number of partners in both countries to facilitate a peer mentoring initiative that will allow youth to share experiences and learning across the two continents through video conferencing, social media and video.
So in the last few months we wrote the plan, set up a YouTube channel* to share video, set up our individual Skype for video conferencing and began the journey. The youth in Belfast, Ireland and Newark, New Jersey were the first to join. They quickly embraced and became the leaders of the project. We now have five sites in the USA (Newark (3), Phoenix, Arizona, and Dayton, Ohio) and five sites in Ireland (all in Northern Ireland) and launched our first Virtual Youth Town Hall on September 21, 2010. The response has been incredible! Recently the Pat Convery, Lord Mayor of Belfast and Cory Booker, Mayor of the City of Newark both recorded videos in support of the project.
