EVENT DATE Dec 05, 2016

Like many cities across the United States, urban communities are challenged with issues mirroring those of countries who are less fortunate than the quality of life many enjoy. In the community of West Pullman Chicago, residents are coming together as one to begin to reclaim that quality of life so enjoyed by many. With a poverty rate of 30% and being a community that is classified as a food and pharm desert, we are determined to reverse the course of a past racked with divestment, closing schools, and high gang activity. This is our second year in holding a West Pullman Tree Lighting Ceremony. This event  serves as a catalyst to unify our residents; get to know our neighbors; and promote self-determination through volunteerism and service. Our first annual event saw over 260 residents, feeding over 250 families. Throughout the year we continued to work to introduce the community to itself, so to speak. West Pullman has a population of over 50,000 residents. Chicago is a city set up along the block-club model. Although this model has worked in the past, the organizers of West Pullman are working to bring the community together as a whole. This year our goal is to triple the number of participants at this years ceremony. This years theme is Peace and Goodwill. Won't you support our efforts to bring unity and change?
