BENEFITING: WESTCHESTER MEDICAL CENTER FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: WESTCHESTER MEDICAL CENTER FOUNDATION
I’m going the distance on November 5 for our patients at the Behavioral Health Center, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network.
In my role as an outpatient mental health counselor, I work with many patients with varying struggles and with those who identify as LGBT. Part of my role is to connect patients with adjunct care in the community, which may include hormones, surgeries, and additional community services.
Considering the stigma that surrounds mental health, many patients – especially those who identify as LGBT - may avoid entering into treatment. By running the TCS New York City marathon on behalf of our behavioral health patients, I hope to minimize the stigma and provide a reminder that anything is possible with hard work and determination.
Originally from Buffalo, I now live in Milford, CT, and I have been part of the Behavioral Health Center team for five years. My experience as a runner includes six prior marathons and dozens of half marathons, but the November 5 race will be my very first New York City Marathon.
