I am going the distance on November 5 for our patients at Westchester Medical Center.
As an oncology pharmacist, I have been a part of this hospital since I was a young kid. Both my parents worked here and I started as a volunteer at a young age. My experiences early on, showed me how important it is to reach out to our patients and to help those in need. I graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy and joined Westchester Medical Center two years ago.
What really motivates me to run this marathon is to show people that our healthcare team has the same passion and determination as our patients to beat whatever stands in our view.
Personally, it is also a journey of growth. I have run many half marathons, but never a full marathon. It takes a level of courage and will power to push yourself to the summit of a marathon. I see an instant parallel with the journey some of our patients are forced to embark on. Specifically in oncology, cancer seems to come as a dark cloud that picks at random a victim. Our patients have to overcome the ailments of chemotherapy and changing their lives completely to fight the good fight.
I want to push myself like my patients; to overcome something I have never done. I run for the patient that labors with every step, fights for every breath; and I run simply because I can, a gift that can’t be overlooked.
