West Coast Bear Cub Rehabilitation (WCBCR) was formed by a small group of experienced and enthusiastic individuals who have come together to open a bear cub rehabilitation center on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. The rehabilitation centre will be designed to alleviating suffering and ensuring animals grow up in a safe environment while retaining their natural instincts. In our community as well as in the province there is a need for a rehabilitation center dedicated to bears. There are currently only three organizations that rehabilitate orphaned cubs in BC and all were operating at capacity in 2015. To add to the number of bears that are saved each year we have amassed a dedicated group of individuals whose knowledge and passion will help ensure the success of the center as well as each individual animal. Our vision is to focus on bear cubs to ensure that their rehabilitation is a success. We plan to build natural enclosures allowing the bears to learn critical survival skills before release while ensuring they remain wary of humans and development. In addition we plan to have an education program to help prevent conflict with wildlife, promote safety and protect our ecosystem We are campaigning for donations to construct the enclosures as well as necessary facilities to become operational. Although we are working with the necessary government agencies the center needs to be fully functional before we can receive permits to start saving bears. Please consider donating to our cause to give orphaned bear cubs a second chance in the wild.
