Westlake Meals on Wheels has been providing nutritional support and caring contact to the near west side suburbs since 1975. Our goal is to support the independence of individuals who desire to remain in their own home versus trading their independence for a stay in a facility. Conceived by local ministers who recognized the need for nutritional support with changing dynamics in our society: families separated by miles and shorter hospital stays. Community members organized our program and cooked in our kitchen like they did for thier own familes.
There is so much love put into our meal preparation. Judy and Al, our Head Cooks plan homestyle meals and supervise a team of 20 kitchen volunteers. Graciela coordinates volunteer bakers who create fresh treats from the heart.
Wendi and Barb coordinate our team of 50 daily delivery volunteers who drive thier own vehicles and deliver meals with a smile. For many of our clients, our drivers are the only contact they have all day.
Families who would like to be able to do more appreciate our support of their loved ones.
Communities benefit from the tax dollars saved on unnecessary hospital stay costs due to falls and malnutrition.
