1000km walk In 2014 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One, the 75th anniversary of World War Two, the 70th anniversary of D-Day and the 70th anniversary of Operation Market Garden we are planning a walk for all of our veterans from past to present. We are starting from Sainte Mere-Eglise in Normandy on June 6th 2014 from the church in the village center where John Steele famously got caught up on the spire and watched helplessly as his comrades fought and died below. Our final destination is Arnhem Bridge in Holland where we will be arriving on 17th September 2014 to tie in with the 70th anniversary of Operation Market Garden. Our route will take in famous European battle sites such as Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Carentan, Gold, Sword and Juno Beaches, Pegasus Bridge, Brecourt Manor, Merville Battery, Caen, Dieppe, Dunkirk, The Somme, Ypres, Vimy Ridge, Messines, Arras, Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem. We will be paying our respects to the fallen servicemen in the US military cemetery at Omaha Beach, the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Bayeux and the military cemetery at Oosterbeek where our 1000km journey will end. We will be also wearing full World War Two paratrooper uniforms kindly donated by the History Bunker.
