What Happens to a Dream Deferred?
Organized by: Fatima Jenkins-Pounds
Fatimah Pounds, an aspiring actress/ singer, has always dreamed and prayed of attending The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts. After graduating high school, she was accepted into Georgia State University. There she would get a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree with a concentration in theatre studies. As she moved through her freshman year, first semester, she began to feel left out. There was something very absent from her life. Fatimah realized that she wasn’t happy because she was no longer doing anything to bring her closer to her dreams. After talking to her academic advisor, she knew exactly what she needed to do. She applied for AMDA and signed up for an audition. Her prayers were answered after receiving an acceptance letter. Unfortunately, getting into the school was only the beginning. The cost of attending AMDA is estimated at $46,000 a year, not including food, transportation, laundry, and other living expenditures. However, Fatimah will not accept this major bump in her road. She will work, apply to every scholarship possible, and reach out to everyone she can think of to turn her dreams and fantasies into reality. Performing has helped her to cope with life and express herself, and she finds much satisfaction in sharing her talents with others. She hopes that in seeing this message, you too will see the beauty in changing lives and helping dreams to go further.
