Natural disasters are a traumatic event for children. Many kids have been affected by Hurricane Matthew recently and may have a lot of questions, anxiety, and worries about what will happen. That is where Jonathan James and the Whatif Monster comes in! This wonderful book, by Michelle Nelson-Schmidt, has the Whatif Monster asking questions such as, "What if they laugh at me?" By the end of the book, Jonathan James is asking questions like, "What if I have the best time ever?"
This fundraiser will buy copies of the book and the Whatif Monster plush toys for kids in eastern North Carolina. For just $21, you can provide a book and plush to a child. They can ask all their questions to their plush and then think about how to change their questions around. Usborne Books and More will match the funds at 50%. That means for $42, you can give books and monsters to THREE children affected by the hurricane.
All of the books and monsters will be sent to Seth's Wish, a nonprofit organization based in Fayetteville, NC (https://www.facebook.com/sethswish/). Seth is just 11 years old and has been working to feed the homeless in NC for a couple of years. Seth and his family have a backpack program, feed the homeless on Sundays, and are collecting relief items for hurricane victims. But, they were victims of the hurricane themselves! The Seth's Wish storage area was flooded in the hurricane and they lost all the food supplies that they had stored to help people through their backpack program. They are very excited about the books and Whatif Monsters to help the children in the area and I can't wait for them to receive big boxes full!
