My five year old son Zak is in Kindergarten and he just started reading. He is engaged and loves going to school. We love seeing him have fun and taking pride in his growth (even if he doesn't tell us much about his day (: We love watching him learn because as his parents we want him in school to prepare for his future, to capture opportunities, and live an impactful life. We want to enable his dreams. Imagine this dream shattered by displacement and fear. Parents on the run frightened of the future and willing to risk it all -- home, community, stability, normalcy -- children in tow drug along mirroring the fear of their parents. Normal days are not built on schedules, routines, and bedtime with the interruptions of schedules ahead of time doctors appointments. Normal days instead are filled by lines and waiting and canvas walls erected inside mesh wire fences. These are the country-less children. These are the children carried away to save their lives only to be left behind.
This is why I am asking you, my friends, my family and my co-workers, to donate whatever your heart says to the innocent victims of the war so these children don't become a Lost Generation!
As the saying goes, " One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in , or how much money I had in the bank, but the world may be a better place because I made a difference in a child's life.
