BENEFITING: NEXT GENERATION OF SERVICE
EVENT DATE: Jan 01, 2016
What inspires you? At the Next Generation of Service (NGS) we ask every student who signs up for a one-on-one mentoring session this exact question. As you can imagine, the answers are incredibly diverse and often intimately personal. For instance, Mary, a recent Portland State University grad answered, “My parents, who are both deaf, inspire me to give back to my community.” Before coming to NGS, this inspiration led Mary to intern for women’s centers and advocate for racial and gender equality. After she graduated, she came to NGS to learn more about service year programs where she could continue to make a difference while also gaining skills and experience that would propel her professionally. Mary is one of several students whose personal experiences inspire her to give back to the community around her. It is students like Mary who come to NGS. NGS is part of a movement that harnesses the inspiration of young people into positive community impact by connecting students to long-term service programs. What inspires me is the thought that this movement will lead to a world in which every fortune 500 CEO carries with them the experience of service. Imagine the difference this would make. Imagine the difference that you can make by supporting NGS. To reach this goal, NGS will continue to expand our online resources and offer one-on-one sessions to over 500 students in 2016. Will you help us harness the inspiration that lies in us all by donating today?
