"Steppin In for people with developmental disabilities provides local, assistance to families with children and adults that have developmental disabilities. These profoundly enriching assistance services allow for much needed time off for the parents and siblings of these individuals. Our programs open whole new worlds of understanding for the participants, while allowing the parents to relax and recover from the care that they provide to their loved ones on a round the clock basis. Through these services, people with disabilities and their families are allowed to live their lives as many of us do that do not have the same responsibility.
For most parents with loving families, time off to go on dates or possibly catch up on some rest and ralaxation is possible. But for those who have a member of their family who has special needs it is often very difficult to get time off. This is because most state ran programs have a long wait time before a person with developmental disabilities is accepted and given the green light to participate in respite services. Even when the individual is approved the assistance may be limited to nine hours per month. Even having a regular care staff becomes an issue because there is a high turnover rate with caregivers. Understandibly, behaviors problems soar and severe depression is common.
The solution is quite simple....Steppin In for people with disabilties and their families!
