BENEFITING: JACKSON CHANCE FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Aug 26, 2017
Adam and I are going on a bike ride - the 2nd Annual Owl Ride for Jackson, a two-day 111-mile ride from Chicago, IL to Valparaiso, IN and back - and you can make a meaningful difference for more babies in the NICU by making a donation.
The Owl Ride for Jackson is a fundraising event for our dear friends’ foundation they started to honor their son, Jackson Chance, who spent most of his 10 months in the NICU. Their mission is to ease the burden of the astounding parking fees that are preventing too many families from visiting their children despite knowing that studies have proven physical touch has equal benefits to medical care for premature and ill babies.
Those of you who know me well know how much I hate to pay for parking (who doesn't, really?). Maybe it is because I grew up somewhere where parking was usually free but I would rather bike or park farther away and walk to avoid paying $5.00 in parking fees. I even rode my bike to radiation treatment on the coldest day of the year to avoid paying for parking! But that is not the reason that I choose to support the Jackson Chance Foundation. I like that the money is spent locally and is making a direct impact. The foundation works directly with hospitals to put parking passes or passes for public transportation directly into the hands of parents so their children can be held and heal faster. Currently working with Lurie Children's hospital, they hope to expand to Northwestern Prentice Women's hospital in the near future.
If you would like to help children be held so they can have a better chance at life, please donate! We really appreciate your support! Any small amount - like what you would pay to park somewhere - is certainly greatly appreciated. I know there are so many great causes to contribute to so thank you for taking time to read about this one. We also welcome your good thoughts for a successful ride!
The Jackson Chance Foundation has a mission to ensure that every NICU baby receives their basic human right - advocacy, support, and human touch 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Jackson Chance Foundation provides so much more than a parking pass – it provides a critical benefit for babies in the NICU. Every $300 raised gives one NICU baby a 24/7 unlimited parking pass for one month. By removing the financial burden of parking for families, we make sure that this basic human right isn't taken away.
