The PHS Cycling Team needs a box trailer.
This trailer will secure bikes and equipment for transport to race venues, which are widely distributed across New England. For the past two seasons, the team has borrowed vehicles from local businesses and family members to make their way to races. As interest from students rises and the team grows, this model will simply not scale.
The trailer, insurance, interior fittings for bikes will cost $7,200.
If we exceed our goal for this capital project, we will fund equipment for the student athletes, such as jerseys and loaner bikes.
The Portsmouth High School Cycling team is a hard working and dedicated group of kids, on and off their bikes. The formation of this new team took perseverance and hard work from each member. The challenges of starting a high school cycling team are significant -- from student and coach recruitment to shoestring budgeting. Cycling is not yet a mainstream high school sport with the infrastructure of support that exists for traditional sports. As a result, the barriers to starting a cycling team are considerable. The team’s effort has clearly paid off, as it has been recognized by the local community and supported by area cyclists, including professionals like former Tour de France Cannondale Pro Cycling Team member, Ted King, and Dylan McNicholas, National Champion Cyclocross racer for Polartec/Independent Fabrication.
With an amazing first year in both Road and Mountain Bike race leagues, the team has generated significant interest at school and will double the number of riders for the fast approaching 2016 Spring Road season. This growth brings with it need for more resources and support.
And, that is why we are asking for your help.
Our next big race is against TIME. Please help us reach our goal!
The PHS Cycling Team takes riders of ALL abilities. As no student is turned away from the team, so too do we welcome donations of any size.
