Our family was recently reminded that God IS going to meet our need for a van. You can check out my Facebook page to hear the amazing details. See More

THE STORY:

Our sweet Silas has a smile that can light up the darkest place. For those who haven't had the opportunity to meet him personally, this little guy blessed our family with his presence in 2012. We learned later that year that he was born with a rare brain defect. The most devastating part of this news was hearing that he may never have a "normal" life. The doctors informed us that due to the severe damage in his brain, Silas had spastic quadreplegic cerebral palsy along with other disorders. Every aspect of his daily life is affected by CP. He has taught us how much we truly take for granted. Taking steps, sitting, swallowing, breathing, picking up a Cheerio, and scratching an itch are just a few things he struggles to do. We don't want people to pity Silas or our family because of these challenges. Instead, we share them because we believe that God's strength is magnified in our weakness. Our family lives in daily surrender to God because without Him, we couldn't make it. We rely on Him for everything and He's proven His faithfulness again and again. Our family has changed quite a bit since our miracle man came along. Our dreams, plans, and finances got rearranged by God. Having a child with complex medical needs puts an interesting spin on things. Instead of shopping for that first baby walker, you pray for a gait trainer to help them take steps. Instead of that first trike, you search endlessly for a special chair they can sit up in. You find that much of your time is spent researching about equipment and therapies that might make a difference. Life is different than you imagined, but still so rich and valuable. We have learned to celebrate the small things. The "inch stones" if you will. A couple months ago, Silas was finally given a chance to experience the joy and freedom that comes from mobility. His insurance approved (thank You Jesus) his first power wheelchair. It was emotional experience, but we knew this chair would change his life. He could wander, search, play, and socialize with this new chair. A world of possibilities! At the time, we thought we had a vehicle that could transport his electric chair. After much much research and phone calls, we learned that it wasn't adaptable for his needs. Our family is asking for help to fund the purchase of a reliable wheelchair van. We are in the process of searching for the right vehicle to transport his electric chair. We have prayed and petitioned God for this need. We trust Him to provide in whatever way and time He sees fit. He never ceases to amaze us. He's still in the miracle business. We remember that every time we look into Silas' sweet face. Thank you so much for your help.
