When Soul Dies - fiction book based on Syrian conflict
Organized by: Markéta R?ži?ková
Hello, My name is Marketa Ruzickova, born and raised in Czech Republic, currently residing in Indiana, USA with my husband. I am currently unemployed as I wait for EAD. I have begun investing my freetime in writing. I now write full-time as I got immersed in my own story about a girl who is used as bargain during the ongoing Syrian war. It is a book of fiction with elements of mystery, adventure, magic realism and social commentary. My passion for the topic grew with the unrest in EU and raise of xenophobia and irrational fear towards victims of war. My motherland is a prime example of a country with close to zero cultural diversity and very strong right-wing populism. I am hoping that my book might bring more understanding and put a human face on "the hords" of migrants people see on the news every day. I spent two of my university semesters in a Muslim country and grew appreciative and understanding of the people and their culture. I am hoping that my book might provide the same experience to people who would not travel to a Muslim country and have minimal chance of meeting an actual Muslim human being in the Czech Republic and other countries where far right politics is on the rise. In order to complete my book fast, I can only allow myself to work part time after I receive my EAD and Green Card. My husband only earns enough money to cover our basic needs. I have been writing in a library because my 10 year old computer couldn't make it through. Writing from home on my own computer where I can organize my research better would extremely ease my work. While my writing is in progress, I would also like to me a trip to the region under cover of some volunteer or charity organization, interview people and document my stay in pictures that would be part of the final publication of my book - When Soul Dies. I have stated my fundraising goal at $3000 in order to cover the travel expenses for my field research, purchase of a reliable labtop and use the rest of the money towards the publishing process.
