On February 5th 2016, a team of 7 of us are going to attempt to ascent to the top of Africa's tallest mountain: Mount Kilimanjaro! We have been training for months and we are very hopefully that we will all summit!!
We couldn't imagine going to Africa empty-handed. 43% of the population in Tanzania live below the poverty line (less than $1.25/day)!
We researched local non profits we could support and we found one that does amazing work with orphans near Dar Es Salaam. Check out their video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iulepOY288
We plan on visiting them on February 21st and we will use the funds donated to buy them supplies in the capital city! We will make sure you get pics of the goods delivery!
Here's their wish list and what we'll try to buy with the funds (due to limited luggage space we will only take limited supplies from the US with us): Children’s bilingual reading books (in both English and Swahili) in English Anything to do with football or netball (e.g. shoes, whistles, training cones etc.) Exercise / notebooks A5 and A4 squared paper for mathematic / grid paper English reading books for teen / adult learners (beginner to intermediate level) A4 paper white and coloured – lined and plain Red correction pens for teachers English - Kiswahili dictionary Bicycle accessories – inner tubes, helmets Children’s clothes (especially boys’ clothes) Computer programmes that teach typing and basic educational computer games (aimed at pre-school up to age 7 years due to English ability) Sunscreen SPF 50+ (for our children with Albinism) Plates, cups and spoons (reusable plastic) for school
