BENEFITING: Durham County Habitat for Humanity
For seven years a team of students and teachers from Warren Harding High School, in Bridgeport Connecticut have volunteered during their April Vacation with Habitat for Humanity. Participating in the Spring Break trip affords students the opportunity to build leadership skills, develop friendships and see their work directly effect families and a community. Families in Bridgeport face the challenge of finding affordable housing and often live in homes built through Habitat for Humanity. With close to 30% of Harding students living below the poverty line the opportunity to participate in this program prepares the youth of Bridgeport to address the housing issue in their community and continue to seek volunteer opportunities. Operating costs for this project include a rental van for travel, accommodations for students, food and gas.
