Our goal is to help stop the spread of Heartworm disease through treatment, prevention, and education. So far in 2016, we have already treated 15 dogs for heartworm disease. More than 50% of the adults dogs we rescue from shelters, in the south, have heartworm disease. The treatment we provide is the American HeartWorm Association approved treatment prococol. This particular protocol takes about four months and the medicine used to kill the adult Heartworms, is expensive. The cost varies depending on the weight of the dog. The bigger the dog, the more the treatment will cost.
As an organization, we have decided that every dog we rescue, will be given whatever treatment their medical condition requires. This includes Heartworm disease. It does not matter to our organization if the test shows that a particular dog has only a few adult Heartworms, for us, heartworm postive is heartworm positive.
