EVENT: TI Education Challenge
Families who live in Shelby County face serious challenges, including poverty, crime, unemployment, and low educational attainment. Several of our Elementary and Secondary Schools in our Shelby County neighborhoods have closed due to budget cuts and mergers. More importantly our educators and staff have suffered tremendous grief because of lack of funding. Ultimately resulting in unemployment due to school closures. At a projection of just under 95,000 students, Shelby County Schools is evolving from its recent merger and demerger of municipal districts within the past two years. The target area for this proposal is served by other federal programs. The proposed program does directly target student achievement, adult education, crime, substance abuse prevention, healthy families, early education, and employment.
