Makenna decided early in the year to dedicate her triathlon race season to making a difference and bringing awareness to a disease that little is known about, yet will impact 1 in 6 men at some point in their lives.
Winter Vinecki founded Team Winter, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, at the age of 9 after losing her 40-year-old dad to prostate cancer. Teamwinter has raised over $500,000 for prostate cancer research and awareness, in her quest to get as many blue ribbons out there as pink ones for breast cancer. Makenna was greatly inspired by her and her story and felt she could take what she loves, triathlons and make better use of doing them by helping Winter raise awareness. In Makenna's first event after pulling on the team winter jersey she was interviewed by the announcer, quite a proud moment to see your little 9 year old talking to a crowd about such a serious cause.
Along with running this foundation Winter, now 14 years old, is also the current IronKids Ambassador, she is also the youngest member of the Olympic Development team for Aerial skiing, and is soon running her sixth marathon in her quest to be the youngest to do so on every continent. All done to promote her cause of bringing awareness and research funds for prostate cancer which affects 1-6 men at some point in their lives.
The funds raised go directly to awareness campaigns, research facilities and research Dr's to find a cure. I encourage you to watch the short video for she says it much better than we are able; she has several more on youtube if interested. If you can give it would be appreciated by a couple girls trying to make a difference, if you can't, just be aware and take action when you can.
Love Faith and Hope makes anything happen!
