BENEFITING: WIMBUM CULTURAL & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION-USA
EVENT DATE: Jul 04, 2015
WICUDA-USA is a non-profit organization representing the interests of the Wimbum people in Cameroon, Africa. Since its creation in 2003, WICUDA-USA has successfully completed several projects, including the following; •Contributed and funded the Ndu and Ngvu Water Projects. •Renovated the Wowo Health Center to meet basic hygiene and sanitation standards. •Furnished ten health centers in Mbum land with hospital beds and microscopes. •Shipped a 40 foot container of $200,000 worth in medical equipment to the Ndu and Nkambe Health Districts. •Provided relief services to villages in the Mbum area in times of disaster. •Intervened in violent inter-village conflicts and sought to strengthen community solidarity through conflict resolution and restorative justice. •Carried out a $30,000 project in constructing 26 pit latrines in needy schools in Mbum land. •Currently planning the supply of Generators to needy Health Centers in Mbum land. Our efforts to improve the lives of wimbum people have revealed the relationship between clean water and the various development indices. Water presupposes sanitation, hygiene, and health. Access to clean water or the lack thereof is affecting the educational achievement of children across wimbum community: lateness to school, school drop out, reassignment of roles in some families to the disadvantage of the girl child—the girl child must stay from school to ensure supply of water, covering kilometers down the valleys and back in the morning and evening. This happens every day! We—WICUDA-USA—are survivors of the crisis caused by the lack of water. WICUDA-USA’s 2015 fundraising is for the drilling of water wells across mbum land. The project is estimated at $31,000.00. Half the hospital beds in developing countries are filled with people suffering from diseases caused by poor water, sanitation and hygiene. (UNDP Human Development Report, 2006) For every $1 invested in water and sanitation, an average of at least $4 is returned in increased productivity for women and girls (UN-MDGs). Your contributions will help provide water and keep healthy children in schools. Let education and health not be a survivor’s story in mbum land. Thank you for your generous donation. Because of you, more lives will be saved, more children will stay in school in Mbum land. Kindly note that all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.
