WIG Initiative Group Mariposa Project
Organized by: Wig Initiative Group WIG
Less than a week to go!
August 08, 2016
EVENT DATE Aug 14, 2016
WIG INITIATIVE GROUP (WIG), provides gently used wigs to underserved women around the globe who are healing from the side effects of cancer treatment, to restore self-esteem by renewing confidence in outward appearance and increasing inner spiritual peace and self love.
WIG accepts donations of new or gently used wigs throughout the year from cancer survivors and generous individuals to help women who are facing cancer in impoverished areas around the world. WIG will travel to Guatemala on August 14th, 2016 to initiate The Mariposa Project, a multi day transformative workshop for cancer patients. We work side by side with the local women's group, Vida y Esperanza ("Life and Hope"). Our goal is to provide each woman with a wig and teach each participant how to properly fit, style and care for her wig. In addition, WIG will provide skin care products and supplies to all participants. The workshop will also teach the benefits of yoga and breath work as a vehicle for self love, confidence and how this impacts self care and loving-kindness.
Our goal is to build a partnership with Vida y Esperanza during our visit. These amazing women will then use the knowledge from The Mariposa Project to continue the transformation workshops fostering a sustainable opportunity for their local community.
We encourage you to view our compassionate and informative video:
and to visit our website at https://givewigs.wordpress.com for more details about WIG, our founders, our supporters and our continued mission.
On a very personal note, this past year, the founder of WIG, Andrea Torre, was also diagnosed with breast cancer. We feel that this is the year for us to come together, travel together and be there first hand to deliver these donations and share the love. Thus, The Mariposa Project workshop was born! We are so humbled by your support. It means so much to us to know that you, too, believe every woman deserves to feel beautiful and empowered as she faces this disease with confidence and renewed strength!
A special thank you to the Zuniga family for housing us during our stay.
