EVENT DATE: Jun 20, 2012
This Summer I will be taking a trip to a wildlife reserve in South Africa where population growth and industrialization is dangerously encroaching on the animals habitat. Open plains and forests are severely limited, and are being replaced with roads, power lines, buildings, and other man-made structures. The overlapping of territories between humans and animals has caused a conflict in the once natural space which has resulted in the killing, hunting, poisoning, and shooting of these beautiful creatures. To help cope with this urban expansion and habitat destruction, volunteers from schools all over the country come to work in wildlife care and rehabilitation centers as well as environmental management centers.
With your contributions I will have the pleasure of helping critically endangered and threatened animals live out their lives in comfort, or be released back into their natural environment. ISV volunteers are required to fundraise or pay their full way towards the trip, including airfare, and have still managed to contribute over 3,500 hours towards assisting with animal care at the rehabilitation centers in South Africa that has enabled these creatures to survive.
