On Sunday, November 6, Genevieve Shaw Brown will be taking to the streets of New York City for the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon. But Genny won't be running this 26.2 mile race alone; Genny is running in honor of LuMind Research Down Syndrome Foundation and she will be relying on the inspiration of 26 incredible people who have Down syndrome, one of whom is Genny's 3-year old son, Will.
Genny is looking to identify 25 individuals who have Down syndrome and will be dedicating a mile of this prestigious race in their honor. She will wear 26 different t-shirts during the race, each with the name of the 26 people with Down syndrome for whom she is running.
To be a part of this truly inspirational event, we invite family members and friends to make a donation in the amount of $321 in honor of someone special in their lives who has Down syndrome.
All of the funds raised will help to fuel the mission of LuMind Research Down Syndrome Foundation, which is to stimulate research to significantly improve cognition - including learning, memory, and speech - for people with Down syndrome (Ds). Our goal is to develop treatments that help people with Ds:
- lead more active and independent lives,
- participate more successfully in school and employment, and
- avoid additional cognitive decline associated with early-onset Alzheimer's disease and aging.
