Franca is one of four girls who were raised by their mother after their father left. “My Mom tried her best to take care of us, but there was no money and we often slept hungry,” Franca said.
After Franca finished 8th grade, she didn’t know what to do or where she was going to go next. Her mother couldn’t afford to pay secondary school fees, so the prospect of continuing her education seemed grim. “Daraja saved me,” Franca said. “I will work hard to achieve my goals,” she said. “Thank you for sponsoring me.”
Franca enjoys poetry and participating in athletics in her spare time. She is extremely passionate about her education and wrote a poem. “Education is like a flower, growing in the garden, to be nurtured and cultivated, in every possible way.” So begins the first poem Franca has ever written, but it will not be her last.
In addition to Franca’s interest in athletics and poetry, she is passionate about becoming a doctor or a lawyer so that she can help people all over the world, especially in Kenya.
Franca understands the incredible opportunity in front of her and says,
“I am so happy to be at Daraja because we are living as a family.”
