I've been getting lazy! I ran my first two marathons in the heat of the Middle Eastern desert, running around the ancient ziggurat of Ur... immediately upon my return from the land of sand I ran the Twin Cities marathon where I was 'welcomed home' by 26.2 miles of cheering locals. There was even a table that was giving out beer (unaffiliated of course). I gave cousin Bob a very sweaty hug that day!
Then I think it was 2008 I burned myself out...
The year began with the quiet but beautiful Grandma's marathon, which is where you should go if you've ever wondered what it sounds like to have 20,000 shoes continuously hitting the pavement. Then the fall wrapped up the bulk of my marathoning with a PR (under 4 hrs!!) in the Twin Cities. On that one Mr. and Mrs. Kalmi somehow got away with a wave instead of sweaty hugs.
Since then I've been lazing about, running half marathons, biking the MS 150, (bike) racing to the Illinois border in the middle of the night, and generally not marathoning.
I would like to become a marathoner again, but I need your help!
I've joined up with the Red Cross team for the Chicago marathon this fall, and I'm raising money for their cause. I know a lot of you give blood (and if you don't, you should- it's free and super helpful!), but they need some financial support as well. So if you're so moved to support the Red Cross, please consider donating!
If for some reason the Red Cross does not move your mouse towards the donate button then consider it as a way to encourage me to get back into marathoning! Chicago is a beautiful city, and running through 26.2 miles of it is a wonderful way to see it! (Although I don't think they'll let me in any of the museums during the race). After all, the more people who know I'm running the more I'll be encouraged to train and do well!
So I'm trying to raise $1200. That's a lot of money, yes, but it's for a good cause.
