Ever since I was a young boy, my father has been my role model. In my eyes, he was invincible and capable of superhuman feats of strength that would rival those of the Man of Steel.
That is why when my mother called me a little over three years ago to say that he had developed lung cancer; I was crushed, the world seemed upside down and I could not sleep for days.
However, thanks to my mother’s quick action, we caught it early on and were able to get my dad the treatment he needed. Part of his post-surgery treatment included involvement in an immunotherapy drug trial. While we will never know for certain if this is part of the reason he is still cancer free today, I believe in the promise of this therapeutic area.
Although I never believed I would run a marathon, this year I have decided to enter in the NYC Marathon in support of the Cancer Research Institute because of the role they play in making sure this particular area of research keeps progressing.
My fundraising page is accessible via the link below. Please take the time to click on it and make whatever contribution you can. I believe in the research and the possibilities that it brings to help us older little boys enjoy a little more time with their Superman.
