Kristin Williams Erin Dewitt
Have you ever had people enter your life and you just know they are there to serve a bigger purpose?
Erin Dewitt is so very special to me. Our paths originally crossed a little over 10 years ago when I started dating her 9 month old son's father. I quickly fell madly in love with her sweet little guy (how could you not? Uggg he is so dang cute!) and was elated when I became his Step Mommy in '08. Over the years I grew quite fond of Quintin's Mom, Erin DeWitt, and her ENTIRE family. We all know how this can go sometimes, we've seen it among our family and friends in similar circumstances time and time again. I'm not going to act like there were never moments when I'm quite sure she wanted to wring my neck, but we always made it a priority to remain respectful and kind and honestly we all got along quite well from the very beginning.
When Mom got sick and then when Quintin's Dad and I decided to go our separate ways, I learned just how special Erin and her family really are. They stepped up to the plate and have loved and supported Adrianna and I in more ways than I can even explain. Erin assigned herself the responsibility of making sure I wasn't dead when I was in the thicke of it all and often withdrew from most of the world. She would call me 10,000 times when she hadn't heard from me or when my Facebook timeline stood silent, and then when I still wouldn't answer she would text me repeatedly demanding that I at least respond to tell her I was okay. This simple act of concern is so meaningful and comforting when the one person whose life mission was to make sure you are still alive is suddenly gone.
Not even a year after my beautiful mother Twila Voss lost her battle with Pancreatic cancer, Erin's amazing father passed away in his sleep without any warning or explanation. When that happened, our relationship changed forever. We turned to each other for encouragement, support, and the kind of understanding you can only get from someone who has been there. Together, we remain committed to keeping the bond strong between our two little blessings and doing the very best we can to raise them to be young adults Grandma Twila and Papa Bob would be proud of.
This year Erin forced me to do Christmas after several years of avoiding holidays without Mom like the plague. She made me drag out the Christmas tree and everything
